Welcome to the EU Optimal Blood Use Project (EUOBUP)

Welcome to the EU Optimal Blood Use website, an initiative of the European Blood Alliance that is co-funded by the European Commission and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service. The aim is to promote improvement in the quality of the clinical transfusion process, which is defined as:

Transfusion of the right unit of blood to the right patient at the right time, and in the right condition and according to appropriate guidelines.

The content of the website and the accompanying book was eveloped by partners from 18 EU countries, named in the list of contributors. It is a resource for improving safety and effectiveness of the clinical transfusion process and promoting the optimal use of blood components across the EU, through sharing of information and best practice.

The Manual has been translated into a number of different languages. Please click on the country flags at the top of the screen to access the language PDF version.
